Mr. Lounès Magramane co-chairs in Rome, together with his Italian counterpart, the fifth session of the Algerian-Italian Strategic Dialogue

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lunas Makrman, co-chaired today, July 30, 2026, in the Italian capital Rome, alongside his Italian counterpart, Mr. Riccardo Guariglia, the proceedings of the fifth session of the Algerian-Italian Strategic Dialogue on bilateral relations and broader political and security issues.

This session, which brought together representatives from various sectors and institutions on both sides, is part of the regular political consultation mechanism between the two countries. It served as a renewed opportunity to assess the progress of bilateral cooperation in various fields and to review achievements since the previous session held in Algeria in June 2025, in light of the outcomes adopted during the Italian Prime Minister’s recent official visit to Algeria in March 2026 and the fifth intergovernmental summit held in Rome in July 2025.

The proceedings allowed for an assessment of various aspects of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the political, security, economic, energy, agricultural, industrial, and cultural fields, with both sides noting with satisfaction the positive results achieved on a number of critical issues. They also discussed ways to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries toward promising prospects, in line with the measures adopted by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the Italian Prime Minister, Ms. Giorgia Meloni.

In this regard, both sides commended the progress made in implementing the “Mattei” plan and reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the implementation of joint strategic projects that will establish a new model of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

During the same session, the two sides discussed the current regional and international situations, exchanging views on developments in the Mediterranean, Libya, Western Sahara, and the Sahel region.
