Mr Attaf receives the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Ataf, received today at the Ministry’s headquarters Mr. Johann Vadivol, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, who is on a working visit to Algeria.

This visit is part of the positive momentum in bilateral relations generated by the official visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Berlin on July 16 and 17, 2026, and the meetings he held with his counterpart, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and with Federal Chancellor Mr. Friedrich Merz.

On this occasion, the Minister of State held one-on-one talks with his German counterpart, followed by an expanded working session attended by members of both delegations. These talks provided an opportunity to review the current state of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and to explore ways to take them to new heights, in line with the recommendations of the “Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership” adopted by the two countries during the President of the Republic’s visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.

In this context, the two sides agreed on the need to take concrete steps to give further impetus to bilateral cooperation by capitalizing on available investment opportunities and potential partnerships in priority economic sectors, particularly energy, renewable energy, the energy transition, industry, transportation, and pharmaceutical products.

They also emphasized the need to activate cooperation mechanisms, strengthen the legal framework, and encourage interaction between business communities to ensure the implementation of the agreements and partnership contracts signed during the Algerian-German Economic Forum held on July 17.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on a number of current regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the crisis in the Middle East, developments in the Sahel region, and the prospects for the Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
