The Algerian Embassy in Brazil celebrated on May 8, 2025, the National Day of Remembrance, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the May 8 massacres.

This year, the day was held under the theme: "A memorable day for a longed-for era." The event was attended by members of the diplomatic mission and the military office, as well as members of the Algerian community in Brazil. The national flag was raised, the national anthem was played, a minute of silence was observed, and the opening verse of the Holy Quran was recited in memory of our righteous martyrs. This event culminated in a speech delivered by His Excellency Ambassador Abdelaziz Ben Ali Cherif on this occasion, in which he recalled the great sacrifices of the Algerian people throughout the colonial era, highlighting in particular the ingratitude of colonial France towards the Algerians who shed their precious blood to liberate the world from Nazism. Their joy at the defeat of Nazism and their demands for independence and dignity were met with bullets and torture, the likes of which humanity has rarely known throughout history.  He said that the glorious memory of May 8th brings to mind the massacres that the French colonizer committed with the utmost brutality to put an end to the massive demonstrations carried out by the Algerian people for freedom and emancipation, which resulted in the fall of more than 45,000 martyrs in Setif, Kherrata, Guelma and other Algerian cities. As the members of the embassy, the military office and the Algerian community in Brazil commemorate this painful anniversary, they stand in reverence, reverence and mercy for the souls of our righteous martyrs.

Long live Algeria.

Glory and eternity to the righteous martyrs.
